Health Care Crisis!
Amazing how quickly he was able to get it all said!!!
Pictured below is a young physician by the name of Dr. Starner Jones. His short two-paragraph letter to the White House accurately puts the blame on a "Culture Crisis" instead of a "Health Care Crisis". It's worth a quick read:
Dear Mr. President:
During my shift in the Emergency Room last night, I had the pleasure of evaluating a patient whose smile revealed an expensive shiny gold tooth, whose body was adorned with a wide assortment of elaborate and costly tattoos, who wore a very expensive brand of tennis shoes and who chatted on a new cellular telephone equipped with a popular R&B ringtone.
While glancing over her patient chart, I happened to notice that her payer status was listed as "Medicaid"! During my examination of her, the patient informed me that she smokes more than one costly pack of cigarettes every day and somehow still has money to buy pretzels and beer.
And, you and our Congress expect me to pay for this woman's health care? I contend that our nation's "health care crisis" is not the result of a shortage of quality hospitals, doctors or nurses. Rather, it is the result of a "crisis of culture," a culture in which it is perfectly acceptable to spend money on luxuries and vices while refusing to take care of one's self or, heaven forbid, purchase health insurance. It is a culture based in the irresponsible credo that "I can do whatever I want to because someone else will always take care of me".
Once you fix this "culture crisis" that rewards irresponsibility and dependency, you'll be amazed at how quickly our nation's health care difficulties will disappear.
Respectfully,
STARNER JONES, MD
So, when my insurance pays for a fat person to get gastric bypass surgery, that's ok because they have a job with insurance? No outrage that this person is wasting resources because they are too lazy to exercise, and won't eat their veggies? Or the guy who needs heart surgery who lives on transfat and sugar? He sure is wasting my insurance dollars - and how do insurance dollars differ from tax dollars? You ignore all those hard working folks who have lost jobs thru no fault of their own, can't afford to buy health insurance, can't get help, declare bankruptcy, but you listen to the self-righteous words of a white male, product of good schools, supportive family (and hard work values, which come from good parenting) putting down an obviously black lowlife who shows up in the ER? Give me a break - this letter is a veiled attempt to use obvious dirtballs to discredit that would help the American people, but threaten those in power who have financial interest in keeping things *just* as they are. Do some research, read some economics before forming opinions.

I can assure that what this ER physician experiences is a daily occurrence in all hospitals of this great country.I for one a critical care physician acknowledge and confirm that a large portion of individual are not taking responsibilty for themselves and expect others to take care of them yet have the capacity to take care of themselves but elect to spend money elsewhere on items that mean little to their everyday lives. This is the reality not a generalization as for some medicaid is a godsend but for many it is another way to abuse the system
